Character Name: Meng Yao/Jin Guangyao
Series: The Untamed
Age: Mid-30s
From When?: After he dies in episode 50.

Inmate Justification: He is a mass murderer and as treacherous as they come.

Arrival: He's a bit out of it, but he likely agreed to the terms. He can't resist taking any helping hand available.

Abilities/Powers: Golden Core Powers

Meng Yao can use a guqin or a flute (or any instrument most likely) to mimic and/or subtly change a person's mood/emotions/well-being. For example a piece meant to calm the mind/senses, in his hands, can cause irritation or outright fury depending on how far he changes the notes. With his photographic memory, he will be able to recall the pieces he memorized in the Cloud Recesses.

Furthermore he can bring forth a guqin to use in battle and he can banish it just as easily. The strings, in particular, are easy for him to use if he ever needs to take a hostage - and when the strings are part of the guqin, he can perform Chord Assassination. (Chord Assassination is a power that is activated when the strings are strummed; waves of power will be sent at one's enemies and it can take out a line of foes. By "take out" I mean they are knocked down. I would say this can hit six or seven people at most and it can be dodged if one is quick enough. The aforementioned waves are visible to the naked eye - they glow silver. Furthermore, since he will rely on his golden core to produce the spell, he will be limited in how often he can use it. I will say, at his best, he can perhaps strum the guqin (and thus produce the waves) ten times.)

Lastly, he can suppress the golden cores of others. Suppression of the golden core will only work on those from his world. It means he can temporarily silence/contain/deaden their powers so they are unable to perform spells/make talismans and so forth. However they are still as physically capable of defending themselves as ever. Suppression only effects their magical production.

Flight

With the help of his sword, Meng Yao can fly. This is an ability all cultivators learn. The speed of said flight is the same as a large bird would fly - not too fast, but quick enough that, even if there is no wind, the fabric of their robes is pressed to their bodies and their hair is lifted behind them. As for how far he can fly - I would say a couple of miles. He is relying on his golden core to propel him, so eventually he will tire.

He can float an inch or so off of his feet too and, if he grabs onto another person, he can carry them along. His speed in that scenario is slower than he could achieve on his sword - more of a quick walk than a run.

Sword

His sword is perfectly in sync with his golden core, which means it reacts to his will. He can summon it to him in a time of need and repel spells with it if his aim is good enough. (All of that is rather difficult when you are missing an arm, but he will find a way to manage.) The specific spells he can repel are those produced by other golden cores (i.e. spells meant to suppress his power and/or knock him down). I wouldn't think he would be able to defend against spells from other worlds - unless they are, for some reason, perfect mirrors of what he is accustomed to facing.

-> I am going to assume his Golden Core is suppressed, so he won't be able to rely on his magic. And flying on his sword is probably out of the question too, but he can likely still summon it. (Also you can't use a guqin as a weapon with one hand. Oops.)

Inmate Information: Meng Yao - currently known as Jin Guangyao - is guilty of many crimes. He is a serial murderer - even if most of the murders were not done directly by his hands. His alliance with those like Xue Yang, for example, has helped him keep relatively clean. However he is guilty for killing Wen Ruohan, his father (Jin Guangshan), Nie Mingjue and his own son, Jin Rusong. The first three were done out of vengeance and so he could gain popularity - thus replacing his father as the Head of the Jin (though his father never wanted him). The last was done because Guangyao was fully aware he had married his half-sister and he feared their child would show signs of that unnatural union.

Furthermore, as if those crimes aren't heinous enough, he holds responsibility for the deaths of Xue Yang, Wei Wuxian and Qin Su - as well as his elder half-brother Jin Zixuan. Basically put, anyone who stands in his way (the way of his happiness, that is) is at risk for being annihilated.

Some might wonder why he would be willing to go so far. (There are likely others who died because of him too, but they are nameless in the series.) Meng Yao was born to a prostitute named Meng Shi. She knew he was the son of Jin Guangshan and did her utmost to raise him, in the brothel, as a proper Cultivator. She acquired what books she could afford and encouraged him to look for his father when he was of age.

Meng Yao did as she bid, excited at the prospect of being accepted into a noble family. On the day of Jin Zixuan's birthday (which also happens to be his birthday), Meng Yao tried to speak to Guangshan during the feast and was rewarded with violence. He was thrown down a large flight of stone steps and nearly killed. It took him a long while to recover, but when he did, he had already begun to capture the heart of Nie Mingjue (thus why, for a time, he was a Nie). Then, with the help of Xue Yang, he devised a fitting punishment for the lusty Guangshan.

Whenever he felt himself in danger or about to be revealed in some way, Guangyao would do something heroic - something like taking a blow meant for someone else - in order to divert attention away from any questions about him. However that wasn't enough for Nie Mingjue, who began to see through him (plus the man threw him down stairs again). And that's why Mingjue was soon driven mad - thanks to an obscure spell Meng Yao had discovered with the Lan - and then cut into pieces.

His wife (and half-sister) Qin Su is just another example of his selfishness. She loved him and complimented him and fluffed his ego. Being with her was pleasant until she found out the truth about their union. Then he silenced her, but the grief caused her to take her own life regardless. That was a difficult loss for him to bear, but entirely for selfish reasons.

Then there was Xue Yang and Wei Wuxian - both who got trapped in his web and paid the price. Xue Yang had once been his friend and Guangyao repaid that friendship by having Xue Yang crippled on the side of some godforsaken road. Wei Wuxian was driven to devastation, in part, thanks to Guangyao's schemes and Guangyao therefore owns some of the blame for the man falling to his death from the cliff.

Personality wise, Meng Yao behaves as he does because, at his core, he is desperate for praise and approval. He wants to be the one in the spotlight - the one lauded for his great accomplishments. To be perfectly honest, he doesn't believe that anyone is completely good or pure. He believes, if pushed, just about anyone will do what he has done. Add on his perfect memory and he becomes a very dangerous foe without empathy.

Where challenges are concerned, Meng Yao recalls the details and finds a solution through the swiftest means. He can be patient, but he needs a reason for that. He also will need a reason to care about those around him because that too won't come naturally. He is a brothel bastard - no one has ever shown him a crumb of sympathy and, even if/when they did, it stung. Guangyao truly believes he is the best of the Jin and worthy of whatever/whoever makes him happy. Yet he also accepts that he has failed in his endeavors and that he has nothing to show for them. That realization just increases his anger and his hatred for himself and everyone else.

Path to Redemption: While he has been thoroughly shamed for his actions already, it would do Guangyao a world of good to encounter/interact with wardens who are not (and cannot be) taken in by his lies. He needs someone who sees through his defenses and treats him like a human. Maybe, in time, he will learn to appreciate himself - and not just his ties to the Jin sect. That's what would help Meng Yao heal fully. If he could value himself then there is no need for him to lie/cheat/steal or kill his way to his goals. He can be content as Meng Yao.

History: This is his history but there are key divergences for The Untamed.
